NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team (6-12, 0-5 Southland) will take back to the court on Tuesday night against the Nicholls Colonels (6-11, 2-2) at the Human Performance Center. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.
New Orleans most recently fell at home against Central Arkansas in three sets last Thursday. In the match, the Privateers conceded 10 aces to a strong service game and the Sugar Bears hit .318 on the night.
Mikayla Sellers-Wiebe returned to the court after getting a match off for rest to lead the Privateers in kills on Thursday. Sellers-Wiebe is second on the team in kills with 126 and digs with 140. Sellers-Wiebe has also contributed in the service game with 14 aces, third most on the squad.
Lauren Levy turned in her seventh match of at least 10 digs by registering 11 against Central Arkansas. Levy also went for double digits in digs in the first meeting against Central Arkansas by recording 10. Levy is averaging 2.23 digs per set on the season.
The Privateers are 32-27 all-time against Nicholls, but the Lady Colonels have taken the last three meetings. New Orleans has won 17 of 23 meetings at home against Nicholls, and the last win against the Lady Colonels came in 2008.
For the Privateers, it's the last home match before heading on the road for four straight including three conference road tests from Oct. 9-18. The Privateers will play the last non-conference match to start the road trip against Southern on Thursday.
Nicholls is led offensively by 6'2" sophomore Kaci Eaton who has 239 kills on the season. Eaton is one of two players in the Southland who is averaging over four kills per set. On defense, Kaylynn Egea is tied for the most digs in the conference with 341. Egea has gone for double figures in digs in every Nicholls match this season and had a season-best 32 digs in a win over Northwestern State on Sept. 27.
After the Tuesday match, New Orleans will travel to Southern to take on the Jaguars Thursday at 6 p.m. Southern (4-9, 1-1 SWAC) enter Thursday's match agains the Privateers as winners of two consectuive matches.
