THE GAME:The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (1-7) comes off the Christmas break and finishes the non-conference schedule against the Kent State Golden Flashes (2-8) on Tuesday evening at Lakefront Arena. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Privateers closed a three-game pre-Christmas road trip with an 87-58 loss to Alabama. New Orleans had another hot shooting 2
nd half, connecting on 50 percent of field goal attempts in the loss to the Crimson Tide.

Kent State is coming off a 62-61 victory over Colgate on Dec. 21. Melanie Stubbs provided last second heroics, hitting a jumper inside of two seconds left to seal the win and break a five-game losing streak.

LAST TIME OUT:The Privateers went cold early and were down by 26 at halftime, but had a strong offensive performance in the second half of an 87-58 loss to Alabama on Dec. 21.
Randi Brown led the team with 14 points and
Alexis Martin chipped in with a season-high 12 points.
Ariele Davis had nine points and drained three triples all in the first half.

THE OPPONENT:Kent State will be playing their eighth game away from home this season. The Golden Flashes own wins over Colgate in their last outing and over Belmont at home on Nov. 25. Larissa Lurken leads the team in scoring (11.7 points per game). Kent State is shooting 39.8 percent from the field on the season and averages 55.8 points per contest while conceding 66.1 points per game.

NEWS AND NOTES:CLOSING STRONG:
The Privateers have closed the last two games against Tulsa and Alabama by shooting 48.3 percent from the field compared to just a 28.3 percent clip in the first half of those two contests.

BROWN-IE POINTS:
Randi Brown has started to heat up with 30 points in her last two games. After a career-high 16 against Tulsa, Brown went for 14 points on Alabama. Brown has also shot 42.9 percent from the field (18-for-42) in her last five games after starting the year shooting 16.2 percent (7-for-43) in the first three games.
RETURN OF THE MAC:
Tuesday marks the first opponent from the MAC that the Privateers have hosted since their first and only meeting against Kent State on Dec. 28, 2008. New Orleans has played five games against current MAC schools in their history.Â
