Privateers Smothered by Central Arkansas

Box Score

Conway, Ark. – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (0-22, 0-11 Southland) were held to a season low in points as they fell 62-30 to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears (15-7, 9-2) on Saturday at the Farris Center.

Central Arkansas scored the first six points of the game before New Orleans got on the board with a Samantha Gray three-pointer. The Sugar Bears went on a 9-0 run to extend their early lead to 15-3, but New Orleans used a spurt by Danielle Davis who scored five straight to cut the deficit to 17-9 with just under 12 minutes left in the first half.

That's as close as the Privateers would get though as they were smothered offensively. New Orleans only hit 24 percent of their shots (6-of-25) in the opening half, and gave up 18 points off of nine first half turnovers. Central Arkansas shot 60.7 percent from the floor to carry a 46-16 advantage into the locker room.

New Orleans was left with too much to do, but did have a stronger second half performance on the defensive end of the floor. The Privateers limited Central Arkansas to just 30 percent shooting in the second half, and committed only three turnovers in the closing half.

Danielle Davis led the way with seven points and also added five rebounds. Dannisha Jackson put up six points, all in the second half. Dasia Batiste added five points in 18 minutes of play. Batiste had been held to five points in her last 12 games combined.
New Orleans' 30 points scored was the lowest in a game this season. It also marked the lowest total since the Privateers were held to 27 points against Louisiana-Lafayette in Nov. 2010.

The Sugar Bears were led by Maggie Proffitt's 23 points. Courtney Duever added 13 points and eight rebounds. Central Arkansas out-rebounded the Privateers 41-25 and had all 12 second chance points. Central Arkansas has now won seven of their last eight games.

The Privateers return to the Lakefront for their next game against Nicholls State on Feb. 13. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
