Privateers Head West to Face Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (4-5, 1-1 Southland) travels west to take on the Nicholls State Colonels (8-7, 2-0 Southland) on Wednesday at the Colonel Tennis Complex. The match is set for 2 p.m.

The Privateers were defeated 5-2 in their only match last week at home against Abilene Christian. New Orleans fell just shy of securing the doubles point when the Wildcats rallied at the third doubles position from a 7-6 deficit to win in a tiebreak.

Christoffer Appelgren has come on strong of late. After taking his singles match at the 5 position, Appelgren has won three of his last four singles bouts. Appelgren played his third three-set singles match this season, and is 2-1 in those matches this spring.

Blake Gregor took the only other point for the Privateers last Wednesday. Gregor was also pushed to a third set at the 4 position, but coasted to a 6-1 win in the final set to take his match. Gregor has also won three of his last four singles matches.

New Orleans won both matches against the Colonels last season. In the regular season, the Privateers won 5-2 and in the Southland tournament, the Privateers took a 4-3 victory. This will be the first time both teams will square off in Thibodaux.

The Colonels are unblemished at 4-0 at home. Nicholls State recently wrapped a seven-match road trip where they went 3-4.

The Colonels were swept by LSU in Baton Rouge in their most recent outing on Sunday. Nicholls State has had to navigate a tough schedule that includes facing three ranked teams (Texas A&M, Tulane, Presbyterian).
