Privateers Poor First Half Leads to Loss

BEAUMONT, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team could not overcome early mistakes, leading to an 83-51 loss at the Montagne Center on Thursday night.

The Privateers (0-28, 0-17 Southland) hung tough with the Lady Cardinals (17-11, 12-5) early on in the first half, leading by as many as five – 11-6 – through three minutes.  New Orleans continued to keep the game close for the initial seven minutes; however, the Privateers succumbed to a 28-10 run by the Lady Cardinals that led to a 41-21 halftime advantage.  The Privateers never recovered.

New Orleans had Danielle Davis and Octavia Wilson score in double figures, with Davis leading the way with 20 points and Wilson following with 10.  Davis also had six rebounds, while Wilson had four assists.  Also having a solid outing was Raven Coleman off the bench with nine points and eight rebounds.

Lamar featured five players going over the 10-point plateau with JaMeisha Edwards leading the Lady Cardinals with 17 points.

The Privateers close out the season by traveling to Sam Houston State on Saturday, March 8.  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
