NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (6-8, 2-3 Southland) will play at cross-town foe Xavier (8-9, 0-0 GCAC) on Thursday afternoon at the XU Tennis Center.
The Privateers are looking to rebound off a tough match against the 64th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns where they were swept 7-0 on Apr. 13. It marked the fourth time in the Privateers' eight losses that they did not pick up a point against an opponent. New Orleans has alternated wins and losses over its last five matches.
Timo Kranz is looking to regain some momentum after missing a portion of the early season due to injury. Expected to be a contributor at the top of the rotation before the year, Kranz hurt his back in the opening match of the spring against Jackson State and has a 1-6 record in singles play this season.
The Gold Rush are playing just their third home match of the season. Xavier has won back-to-back contests against William Carey and Jackson State. Xavier is led by Kyle Montrel who has a 9-7 record in duals this season, all at the 1 position. Montrel has paired with Nikita Soifer for an 11-4 mark at No. 1 doubles.
The match is set for 3 p.m. and will set up the season finale when New Orleans heads to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Apr. 21.
