Privateers Eye Four-Match Homestand, Host Mississippi Valley State Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team open the home portion of its 2014 schedule with a four-match home stand that starts with hosting Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday, September 2 at the HPC.  First serve is set for 6 p.m.

The Privateers (1-2) are fresh off the Texas Southern Invitational, where the team opened with a 3-1 defeat of Texas Southern, but fell 3-2 and 3-0 to Prairie View A&M and Grand Canyon, respectively.  Grand Canyon won the tournament, going undefeated in all nine sets played.

Mississippi Valley State (0-3) is winless on the season and has not claimed a set in 2014.  The Delta Devils fell to nationally-ranked Missouri, North Texas and Southland Conference foe Northwestern State in the North Texas Invitational over the weekend.

New Orleans is led by redshirt freshman Cara Sander with 48 kills through three matches, followed by fellow freshman Mikayla Sellers-Wiebe and Rondolyn Bryant with 19 and 18, respectively.  Another newcomer making a mark early on is junior Sara Hammoutene with 54 assists at the setter position.  The Paris, France native is averaging 6.0 assists per set.

Reigning LSWA Newcomer of the Year Celeste Ramirez leads the Privateers in digs with 35 and follows Hammoutene in assists with 35.  Ramirez, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, has seen the majority of her action at libero, making the move from setter where she operated from last season.

The Delta Devils are led by Halee Clark with 10 kills on the season, while Alexandria Garland is atop the team in assists with 28 and Steffi Rodriguez in digs with 19.

First serve is set for 6 p.m. in the HPC.  Admission to all home matches is free.
