NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team (5-8, 0-1 Southland) opens up a three-match home stretch with three conference games. The Privateers will first battle in-state and conference foe Southeastern on Tuesday at the Human Performance Center, followed by Houston Baptist on Thursday and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday. First serve Tuesday against the Lions is set for 6:30 p.m. with free admission.
The Privateers enter Tuesday after winning one of three matches over the weekend at the Sugar Bear Invitational. During the weekend, the Privateers took a set from the defending Southland Champion Central Arkansas before closing out with a three-set win against Grambling.
Mikayla Sellers-Wiebe continues her all-around impact on the court after a weekend that featured 27 kills, 22 digs, five service aces, and three total blocks. Sellers-Wiebe is second on the team in kills and digs, and registered double figures in both categories in a match for the third time this season by going for 13 and 11 against Grambling.
Taylor Berry closed the weekend strong as well. Berry had 19 kills in the three matches with 11 of those coming against Grambling. It was the highest kill total for Berry in a match this season, who also contributed six total blocks.
Southeastern (2-9) comes in trying to snap a seven-game losing skid after starting the year at 2-2. The Lady Lions' most recent outing was a four-set loss at home against Southern Miss. This will be the opening conference match for Southeastern.
The Lady Lions are led offensively by Parrie Hartley who has 97 kills. On defense, Morgan Todd has 188 digs. Todd is averaging 4.7 digs per set, which ranks fourth in the Southland and is the only player to have appeared in all 40 Southeastern sets this season.
Houston Baptist (5-9) will travel to the HPC on Thursday. The Huskies will have five days between their last match after going 0-3 at the SMU Tournament on the weekend with losses to SMU, New Mexico, and College of Charleston. The Huskies enter the week second in the Southland in total blocks with 114.
The week concludes with a match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (7-9) on Saturday. The Islanders will be traveling out of Texas for only the second time this season. The Islanders enter the week with the most total digs of any team in the conference.
The matches against Southeastern and Houston Baptist will both begin at 6:30 p.m. The week's finale against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will start at 12 p.m. All games will be streamed live on www.unoprivateers.com/watch.
