Privateers Take on Islanders in Homecoming Game Presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl

THE GAME:
The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (2-13, 0-6) finishes off a home week with Homecoming presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl and a match-up against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (8-9, 4-2) on Saturday at Lakefront Arena. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
The Privateers held a halftime lead in the last outing against Central Arkansas on Wednesday, but clutch free throws sunk New Orleans in a 53-46 loss. The Privateers fell behind at the 12:15 mark and could never regain the lead.
 
The Islanders smothered Southeastern 74-53 on Thursday as three players went for a double-double in the contest (Shay Weaver, Olivia Fouty, Ashanti Plummer). Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held Southeastern to just 28.6 percent shooting in the win. Three of the Islanders' four wins in conference have come by more than 15 points.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Privateers led by three at halftime, but surrendered some critical threes in the second half of a 53-46 loss to Central Arkansas on Wednesday. The Sugar Bears connected on seven triples in 16 attempts and also went 10-for-12 from the free throw line in the second half. Yasmin Taylor scored a team-high 11 points while Raven Coleman added eight points and eight rebounds. Danielle Davis co-led the team in rebounds, also pulling down eight boards.

NEXT UP:
The Privateers go through an in-state road swing next week, traveling to Nicholls on Jan. 29 and McNeese State on Jan. 31.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
TAYLOR MADE:
Yasmin Taylor had her fourth straight game of at least seven rebounds on Wednesday. Taylor has also been a force on the offensive glass, pulling down 56 offensive rebounds which ranks fourth in the Southland.
 
PUT IT BACK:
Raven Coleman had six of her eight points Wednesday on second chance opportunities. Coleman had six offensive rebounds, a season-best and one shy of her career high. Coleman also took 10 shots against Central Arkansas after having just five field goal attempts the previous three games.
 
TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER:
Yasmin Taylor became the eighth Privateer this season to lead the team in scoring after doing it for the first time on Wednesday. The Privateers' first five games this season featured a different leading scorer. Halie Matthews and Danielle Davis have been the team's leading scorer in a game the most times this season (three each).
