FIRST SERVEThe New Orleans Privateers volleyball team (12-13, 2-7 Southland) starts a three-match home week with a non-conference battle against the Mississippi State Valley Devilettes (2-24, 0-6 SWAC) on Tuesday. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at the Human Performance Center.

The Privateers are coming off an 0-2 conference weekend with losses to Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word. In the latter match against the Cardinals on Saturday, New Orleans took two of three sets to extra rallies, but fell short in each. Incarnate Word won 3-0 and took the first and third set by the same score line (30-28).

Lane Hindenburg came into the game late in the third set and registered kills on all five attempts, helping the Privateers rally from a 24-19 deficit to force extra rallies. Hindenburg's season-high for kills in a match is six against Fordham.

Tuesday begins the final stretch of mostly home matches for the Privateers. Seven of the last nine game of the season will be played at the HPC. The only road trips left for New Orleans are conference tilts at Southeastern (Nov. 3) and at McNeese State (Nov. 10).

QUICK HITS-New Orleans has played in nine sets that have gone to extra rallies. Before Saturday, the Privateers took five of seven sets that have required more than 48 rallies.

Shaylene Reimer played in the libero role and recorded 17 digs, her second highest total in a match this season.
-The Privateers have won both meetings against MVSU, including a 3-0 decision on Sept. 2, 2014.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTMississippi Valley State enters with a 2-24 record and has lost six straight matches. The Devilettes are coming off a five-set loss to Alcorn State. MVSU took the first two sets, but could not hold off an Alcorn State rally. The Devilettes lost the deciding set 15-7 and allowed a .312 attack percentage. MVSU is 1-3 in five-set matches this season.

Douglas Hunter is in his second season as head coach at Mississippi Valley. Hunter has previously been a head coach at two different schools: Shaw University and Winston-Salem State. In his first year in Itta Bena, Hunter guided the team to a 4-26 record.

The Devilettes rank fourth in the SWAC in digs with 1,076 total (12.09 per set). Ilaisha Hale has the seventh-best hitting percentage in the conference at .238. Cynthia Richardson leads the team in blocks with 62. Halle Gayten is ninth in the conference in kills per set. Last year, Gayten had five kills against the Privateers.
