Volleyball Caps Off Week With Match vs. Southeastern

FIRST SERVE
The New Orleans Privateers (10-9, 1-3) return to conference action as they face another in-state foe in the Southeastern Lady Lions (8-10, 2-2) on Saturday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
The Privateers notched their 10th win of the season on Thursday against Southern, winning 3-0. New Orleans is now 39-7 all-time against the Jaguars and has achieved their first season of double-digit wins since 2010. Cara Sander and Sara Hammoutene returned to the lineup from injury with Sander leading the team in kills (12).
 
New Orleans continues to pace the conference in service aces, checking in with 1.91 aces per set. In Thursday's victory, the Privateers recorded five aces. Four of those came off the hand of Shaylene Reimer who leads the team in aces on the season with 25. Four players have 20 or more aces heading into Saturday.
 
All-time, the Privateers are 37-20 against Southeastern with an 18-8 mark at home. The Lady Lions have won the last five meetings. The last Privateers victory over Southeastern came back on Sept. 5, 2009. New Orleans' highest winning percentage against a Southland foe is vs. Southeastern (.649).
 
QUICK HITS
-Lauren Levy is closing in on moving up to sixth on the Privateers all-time digs list. Levy is currently 65 digs away from tying the mark of 1,199 from Christy Levy (1996-99).
-The Privateers and Lady Lions have combined to play in six matches that have gone five sets. New Orleans is 2-0 in five-set matches while Southeastern is 2-2.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Southeastern comes in having played their fourth match of five sets this season after defeating McNeese State on Tuesday in Lake Charles. The Lady Lions got a career-best nine blocks from Veronica Turk in the victory. Turk is second on the team in blocks with 35 total in 54 sets played. Two of her nine blocks on Tuesday were solo.
 
The Lady Lions were 8-8 in Southland play last year. Their eight conference victories represented the most in a season in 12 years. Southeastern returned all six starters from last season's team. At home, Southeastern is 1-2 this season.
 
Jim Smoot is in his third season as head coach at Southeastern and his 26th overall. Smoot is six wins away from 400 for his coaching career. Smoot has previously been a head coach at Loyola-Marymount, Ohio State, Hawaii, South Alabama, and Westmont College. Smoot has also had assistant coaching jobs at LSU and Michigan.
 
Landry Bullock leads the team in kills with 2.76 per set. Bullock had 12 kills against McNeese State and has a season-best of 17 kills vs. Portland State. Monica Ramon has played in all 68 sets for Southeastern this year and leads the team in aces with 22.
