THE GAME:The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (3-17, 1-10) faces their only contest of the week in a rematch against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (11-11, 7-4) on Thursday at the American Bank Center. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.

The Privateers went on a dry spell at the end of both halves and wound up on the short end of a 50-44 defensive slugfest against Central Arkansas on Saturday. New Orleans did not score for the final 4:30 of the first half and for a near nine-minute stretch of the second half.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated Sam Houston State 63-50 in their last outing. The Islanders held the Bearkats to just 32.1 percent from the field and Sam Houston State also missed all 15 of their three-point attempts. Shay Weaver is fourth in the Southland in scoring at 16.9 points per game. The Islanders are currently tied for fourth in the standings with Northwestern State.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Privateers fell behind by 12 at halftime and could not complete a comeback in a 50-44 loss to Central Arkansas. After falling behind 30-18 at halftime, New Orleans came out and cut the deficit to as small as three on two separate occasions, but could not draw closer.
Halie Matthews and
Randi Brown co-led the team with 13 points each. Matthews went 6-for-9 from the field.

NEWS AND NOTES:NIFTY FIFTY:
Yasmin Taylor recorded her 50
th steal of the season on Saturday at Central Arkansas. Taylor becomes the second player in the last five seasons to record at least 50 steals (
Mirjam Sipos, 2011-12). Taylor is averaging 2.5 steals per game, the most since Monique Taylor had 2.6 steals per game in 2003-04.
THIRTY SOMETHING:No Privateer is averaging more than 27.2 minutes per game on the season. If that holds throughout the rest of the year, it will be the first time in team history that the leader in minutes did not average at least 30 minutes per game.

THE DEFENSE DOESN'T REST:The Privateers held an opponent under 60 points for the seventh time overall this season and the fourth time since starting Southland play. The 50 points surrendered on Saturday were the fewest given up since conceding just 49 points on Dec. 18, 2011 against North Alabama.
