NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (2-3) starts Southland play on Friday when they make the trip to take on the Abilene Christian Wildcats (2-5) on Friday. The match is scheduled for an 11:44 a.m. start which is immediately following praise chapel.
The Privateers faced their first ranked opponent in the last outing, falling 4-0 to 28
th-ranked Mississippi State in Starkville last Saturday. New Orleans has been swept in two of their three losses during the spring season, also falling 4-0 to Southern Miss.
In the loss,
Blake Gregor was matching a nationally ranked singles player in Tassilo Schmid. After losing the first set 7-5, Gregor was ahead in the early going at 2-1 in the second set before the match was finished after Mississippi State had clinched the win.
The Privateers and Wildcats met for the first time last season with Abilene Christian taking a 5-2 decision. The inaugural meeting featured three singles matches going the full three sets including one going to a 13-11 tiebreak.
Abilene Christian won the inaugural National Invitational Tennis Tournament last season after going through conference play at 5-1. In their most recent outing, the Wildcats split a doubleheader, defeating Tyler JC 4-3 but falling by the same margin to Trinity University.
The Wildcats have four players from last year's postseason run. Nico Agirtelley was named to the All-Southland Second Team a year ago in singles and doubles after leading the team in wins (19). This season, Agirtelley is 4-3 in singles.
