NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (3-3, 1-0) takes back to the court and returns home to face the Tyler Junior College Apaches (2-1) on Sunday at the University Tennis Center. The match is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
The Privateers are coming off a win to open conference play against Abilene Christian just two days before.
Romain Lefevre made his spring debut and picked up a win in singles and teamed with
Giacomo Adoncecchi in doubles to help the Privateers to a 4-3 victory.
It was the second time this spring that the Privateers swept the back three positions in singles. New Orleans also accomplished the feat against Loyola. Adoncecchi and
Blake Gregor picked up singles wins on Friday and Gregor is now 4-1 in singles play on the dual season.
This will be the first time the Privateers have squared off against Tyler. The Privateers have alternated wins and losses throughout the first six matches of the year.
Tyler has been a successful junior college program, finishing as a regional champion and a national runner-up last year while achieving a 16-7 mark in dual play. Two years ago, the Apaches were NJCAA National Champions.
The Apaches are on a two-match weekend against Southland competition. Tyler Junior College will make a stop in Thibodaux to face Nicholls before their match against the Privateers on Sunday. In the spring opener, Tyler was just edged out 4-3 against another Southland foe in Abilene Christian.
