Privateers Battle Nicholls on Thursday

THE GAME:
The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (4-19, 2-12) enters the second of a four-game home stretch against the Nicholls Colonels (14-11, 10-4) on Thursday at Lakefront Arena. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
The Privateers lost the opening game of the home stand 75-63 to Northwestern State and were behind by as many as 27 points in the second half before launching a furious rally. It was the third time New Orleans went over 60 points in a game in conference play this season.
 
Nicholls had a seven-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Stephen F. Austin 68-59 on Saturday. The Colonels' winning streak consisted of six victories by double figures. Jenny Nash leads the Southland in minutes played (36.9 per game). Nash also leads the team in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Privateers went to the half trailing by eight points against Northwestern State, but were out-scored by 19 in the first nine minutes of the second half and could not recover in a 75-63 loss. The Privateers did cut the second half deficit to as little as eight, but conceded nine three-pointers in the loss. Randi Brown went for 22 points while Halie Matthews added 16. Yasmin Taylor went for a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

NEWS AND NOTES:
PUT SOME WINDEX ON IT:
The Privateers posted their widest rebounding margin of the season, out-boarding Northwestern State 47-27 on Saturday. New Orleans is third in the Southland in offensive rebounds per game (14.7) since conference play began, trailing only Abilene Christian and McNeese.
 
MADNESS:
Randi Brown poured in 52 points in the previous week of games, moving her scoring average from 8.8 to 10.3. On Saturday, Brown scored 19 of her 22 in the second half and for her efforts, was named the collegesportsmadness.com Southland Player of the Week.

HALIE'S COMET:
Halie Matthews has also started to crank up as the season winds down. Matthews has put up double figures in points in five of her last six games including 35 in her last two. Over the last eight games, Matthews has also moved her rebounding total from 3.9 per game to 5.0.
