Men's Tennis Faces Tough Test Against #23 Mississippi State

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (2-2) faces an SEC foe when they battle with the Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-2) at McCarthy Gymansium. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

It will be the first contest for the Privateers against a ranked opponent as the Bulldogs come in ranked 23rd in the nation. New Orleans coasted to a 7-0 victory in the most recent match against Loyola at home on Tuesday.

The doubles teams were switched up with Christoffer Appelgren playing at the 1 position alongside Timo Kranz. Also, Daniel Populus got his first call in the rotation on the season, playing at the 3 spot in doubles with Luis Albuquerque.

In singles, Blake Gregor has gotten off to a 3-1 start after a solid fall campaign. Gregor has played exclusively at the 4 position for the Privateers. His only loss in singles came in the Privateers' dual against Southern Miss.

Saturday will mark the second all-time meeting between the two schools in men's tennis. Mississippi State defeated the Privateers 6-1 in the 2004-05 season when the Bulldogs were ranked 30th in the country.

Mississippi State will have two matches on the day. Before facing off against New Orleans, the Bulldogs will square off against Samford at 12 p.m. The Bulldogs have already faced four ranked opponents in a rugged early schedule. Individually, Rishab Agarwal and Florian Lakat both have five wins in the dual season in singles.
