Men's Tennis Faces Islanders for First Time in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (6-6, 2-0) faces a second consecutive ranked opponent on Tuesday when they tangle with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (10-3, 0-0) at the University Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

The Privateers have had nine days to prepare after their last time on the court. New Orleans lost two matches in one weekend, first falling to Bryant on Mar. 13 by a 5-2 margin. Two days later, the Privateers were out-matched at LSU, losing 7-0. It's the first time this season the Privateers have lost back-to-back matches.

This season, New Orleans has used 11 different doubles combinations and has gone 13-19 in doubles matches. Blake Gregor and Rui Silva have played nine matches together (7-2). Giacomo Adoncecchi and Romain Lefevre have been paired up seven times (3-4).

For the first time these two teams have met in New Orleans. The Islanders have gotten the better of the Privateers in the Southland Tournament the last two years, winning the conference championship in 2013 and defeating New Orleans in the opening round last season.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comes in ranked 55th in the nation and has ripped off seven straight wins. To start the month of March, the Islanders boasted a 3-0 mark in the HEB Tournament of Champions, defeating Texas-San Antonio, Arizona, and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Islanders' last outing was a road victory at UTSA on Mar. 19.

For the Islanders, their success has started at the top of their singles rotation with Peter Nagy who is 10-1 in duals this season. Nagy has won five straight singles matches since his only defeat which came in three sets to UTSA's Tomas Stillman. The duo of Kevin Betterdroffer and Guillaume Rauseo has been unblemished (5-0) while playing at the 2 spot in doubles.
