Men's Tennis to Participate in Troy Spring Invitational Starting Friday

NEW ORLEANS, La.  – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (6-7, 2-1) Southland readies for a two-match non-conference weekend in Troy, Ala. against the Troy Trojans on Friday and the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

The Privateers have a tough task to start the weekend and come in having lost three straight. New Orleans has faced back-to-back ranked opponents, losing most recently to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 6-1 on Tuesday. The match against Troy will mark the third straight ranked opponent the Privateers will face.

Romain Lefevre is now 7-1 in singles play after providing the lone point for the Privateers on Tuesday. Lefevre has been a mainstay in the Privateers' rotation since being inserted on Feb. 13. All seven of Levere's matches and wins have come at the 5 position.

This will be the first time the Privateers have faced Troy since the spring of 2013 when New Orleans lost 5-2 at Troy. Since 1996, New Orleans has not won a match against the Trojans. Saturday's match against the Mountaineers will be the first meeting between the two schools.

Troy (17-5, 4-0 Sun Belt) comes in winners of their last seven matches and are ranked 57th in the latest poll. Most recently, the Trojans took a pair of matches in The Trojan Invitational Shootout last weekend with wins over Xavier (La.) and Columbus State. The Trojans have gone through a tough schedule, facing five ranked opponents this year.  Hassan Ndayishimye leads Troy in singles victories this spring with 15.

Appalchian State (6-8, 1-0 Sun Belt) has won back-to-back matches by 7-0 margins defeating Bethune Cookman on Mar. 11 and blanking Georgia Southern on Mar. 17. Scott Webster is 12-2 this spring while rotating between the 3 and 4 spot in the rotation. Webster is undefeated (4-0) as the Mountaineers' #3 player.
