NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (5-4, 2-0) starts a three-match non-conference stretch on Sunday against the Southern Illinois Salukis (3-6, 0-0) on Sunday in Hattiesburg. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
The Privateers' last outing was a 6-1 victory over Nicholls to keep their early mark in conference play unblemished. New Orleans is 4-1 this season when obtaining the doubles point.
Blake Gregor and
Rui Silva have been a solid tandem at the 2 position, going 5-2 in spring.
Romain Lefevre has continued his unbeaten mark in singles, moving to 4-0 after a win over Nicholls' Max Sinn last week. Lefevre has already surpassed his win total from last season when he was 3-7 in singles play.
New Orleans is 2-0 all-time against the Salukis. Both matches happened a decade apart with the first occurring in 1999 and the second in 2009. This will also mark the second time the Privateers have gone to Hattiesburg this season.
Southern Illinois enters off their most recent outing, a 4-3 loss at the hands of Lipscomb on Feb. 28. The Salukis dropped their first four matches of the season to Tennessee, North Florida, Mercer, and Austin Peay. Michal Kianika has gone 7-1 exclusively from the 2 position. Six of his seven wins have finished in straight sets.
