BOX SCOREHATTIESBURG, Miss. –
Romain Lefevre took the third set of his singles match to remain unbeaten and propel the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (6-4, 2-0) to a 4-3 victory over the Southern Illinois Salukis (3-7, 0-0) on Sunday.
Â
Lefevre went to tiebreaks in the first two sets with Szymon Opieczonek at the 5 position. Lefevre won the first set tiebreak, but lost the second to set up a third and match deciding set. Lefevre coasted to a 6-2 set to cap off the win and move his singles record to 5-0.
Â
The day started with the Salukis taking wins at the 1 and 3 spots in doubles to capture the first point of the match. The lone Privateers duo to register a win was the tandem of
Blake Gregor and
Rui Silva who won their match 6-1.
Â
In singles, it was the back half of the rotation that made the difference in a tightly contested match. Four of the six singles bouts went the full three sets. Gregor,
Gonzalo Garcia, and
Giacomo Adoncecchi each posted victories to vault the Privateers. Gregor and Adoncecchi each finished their match in straight sets.
Â
Next up for the Privateers is another non-conference battle back home against Bryant on Friday, Mar. 13. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
