NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (9-9, 2-1) looks to continue their late season spurt in conference play against the Incarnate Word Cardinals (5-15, 0-3) on Friday at the UIW Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
The Privateers come in having won three straight after snapping a five-match losing streak on Apr. 1. In that span, New Orleans defeated three non-conference opponents (Lindenwood, Jackson State, and Alcorn State). Also in that stretch, the Privateers did not drop a point.
With two matches remaining, the Privateers are currently standing in second in the conference. New Orleans will close the season on Sunday against Lamar. New Orleans is 3-6 in matches away from home this season. The last victory outside of New Orleans was a 4-3 win over Southern Illinois on Mar.8.
Romain Lefevre moved his mark to 10-2 and became the second player on the roster to notch double digit wins in spring. Over last weekend against Jackson State and Alcorn State, Lefevre dropped just six games over four sets while winning both matches in straight sets.
Incarnate Word comes in on a 10-game slide with their last win coming against Laredo CC on Feb. 21. The Cardinals' last outing was two weeks ago, a 6-1 loss at the hands of fellow conference foe, Lamar on Apr. 3. In dual play, the Cardinals roster has combined to win just 34.5 percent of singles matches.
Leonard Ivic leads the team in wins with 10. Ivic has been at the top of the Cardinals' rotation for all 20 matches, but is just 3-7 over his last 10 outings. Tucker Brown has eight wins this spring and like Ivic, has gone 2-1 against conference opponents.
