Men's Tennis Loses to Lamar in Opening Round of Conference Tournament

BOX SCORE

BEAUMONT, Texas
– The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (10-11) could not sustain an early boost in the doubles matches as they fell 4-1 to the Lamar Cardinals (14-10) on Saturday at the Beaumont Tennis Complex.

The Privateers won the first match of the day at #1 doubles as Blake Gregor and Rui Silva combined for an 8-6 victory, handing Nikita Lis and Jeandre Hoogenboezem their first loss as a pairing this spring. However, the Cardinals took the other two matches in doubles, both by 8-3 counts to earn the first point of the day.

In singles, the Cardinals got straight set victories from their top two players in the rotation to push to a 3-0 lead. Lis turned in a 6-1, 6-3 win while Michael Feucht followed at #2 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 victory to put the Cardinals on the brink of advancing to the finals.

Giacomo Adoncecchi put the Privateers on the board as his match was the next to finish. Adoncecchi earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jusso Laitinen at #6 singles. The bout wrapped up though when Benny Schweizer topped Silva 6-1, 6-3 at the 3 spot to put Lamar into the conference championship.
