NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (7-9, 2-1 Southland) comes back from an eight-day break between matches to wrap up their home slate starting with a match against the Jackson State Tigers on Thursday at the University Tennis Center. The Privateers will then face Alcorn State on Friday at 1 p.m.
The Privateers broke a five-match losing skid in their last outing, a 7-0 win over Lindenwood on Apr. 1. It was the second time New Orleans swept every match this season, also winning by the same margin over Loyola earlier this season.
This season, New Orleans is 4-3 in home matches.
Blake Gregor has 20 wins between singles and doubles this spring, garnering an 11-3 mark in singles and a 9-4 record along with
Rui Silva in doubles play. 10 of Gregor's singles victories have come at the 4 position.
Entering the two-match home swing, the Privateers have won 41.5 percent of their doubles matches this year (17-24). Of the 12 tandems used besides Silva and Gregor, no pairing has played together more than seven matches this season.
Jackson State enters with a 3-18 mark overall and a 2-3 record in SWAC play. The Tigers took a 6-1 loss to Auburn-Montgomery in their last outing. Jackson State has lost seven of their last eight entering the week after winning back-to-back conference matches.
Alcorn State is unblemished in conference play at 4-0. Their most recent outing was a narrow 4-3 loss to Delta State. The Braves defeated Jackson State back on Feb. 28.
