OPENING TIPThe New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (3-7, 0-1 Southland) looks to bounce back from a tough start to conference play when they host the Incarnate Word Cardinals (3-9, 0-1) on Thursday at Lakefront Arena. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
On Monday, New Orleans lost 79-52 to Southland pre-season favorite, Lamar. The Privateers kept close tabs throughout the first quarter, only trailing by two. However, Lamar was able to steadily pull away after the opening stanza behind four players in double figures. The Privateers were led by 
Bria Platenburg who had 11 points. 
Randi Brown and 
Shania Woods each added 10 points.
 
This will be the third all-time meeting between both teams. The Cardinals have taken the first two match-ups including the most recent, a 71-59 win last season in San Antonio. The Privateers are 3-1 at the Lakefront Arena this season and are 7-2 in their last nine games at home dating back to last season.
 
Danielle Davis has churned out the assists this season, dishing out four against Lamar. Davis is seventh in the Southland in assists per game and fifth in assist-turnover ratio. Over her last six games, Davis has 23 assists and has a season high five helpers on three different occasions. Davis has 161 career assists in 64 games as a Privateer.
 
FAST BREAK-Woods nearly collected her first double-double of the season at Lamar, leading the team in rebounds with nine to go along with 10 points. Woods leads the Privateers in rebounds.
-Thursday starts a January slate that features mostly home games. New Orleans will play six of their next eight games at the Lakefront.

Mathilde Fogelstrom earned her second starting call of the season on Monday and pulled in five boards in 14 minutes of play.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTIncarnate Word enters having lost eight straight games. Their last outing was a 65-60 loss to Sam Houston State on Jan. 2. The Cardinals were held to seven points in the third quarter after taking a lead into halftime. The last win for Incarnate Word came back on Nov. 23 against Howard Payne. This season, UIW has also defeated LSU-Alexandria and SUL Ross State.
 
Aricka Adams leads the team in field goal percentage (40.6) and is averaging 11.2 points per game. Adams was the Cardinals' leading scorer in 2014-15. A junior college transfer, Adams averaged 13.1 points per contest in 2014-15.
 
The Cardinals are coached by Kate Henderson in her third season. The Cardinals are looking for their first road win this season (0-5). On the season, UIW averages 55.4 points per game. Brianna Williams leads the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game. Williams also leads the team in three-pointers and free throws made.
