NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans volleyball plays its final road match of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 8, when the Privateers venture to Jackson, Mississippi for a contest against Jackson State. Match is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
The two sides met earlier this season in Jacksonville, Alabama, where UNO swept JSU 3-0 in their final match in the Jax, State Invitational. The victory marked the second-consecutive win for New Orleans in the all-time series. The Privateers lead the all-time series 8-3
"We played against Jackson State earlier this season, but we are both different teams then we were a couple months ago," head coach
Millicent Van Norden explained. "If we want to leave Jackson with a victory we are going to have to serve competitively and play with minimal attacking errors."
New Orleans (4-24, 1-14 SLC) enters its final road match of the season after a 3-0 loss against Sam Houston State. The Privateers average 11.388 kills on a .148 hitting percentage with 13.94 digs, 10.66 assists, 1.63 blocks and 1.53 service aces.
Individually, freshman setter
Sarah Thomas (Accounting & Finance) averages 9.47 assists, sending the majority of her sets towards freshman outside hitter
Jordan Yauch (Biological Science) and sophomore outside hitter
Blessing Dunn (Business Management) who average 2.76 and 2.02 kills respectively. From the service line, Yauch leads the team with 0.32 aces per set, followed by Thomas with 0.25.
Defensively, sophomore defensive specialist
Samantha Uline (Exercise Physiology) anchors the Privateers with 3.62 digs with Dunn contributing 3.01. At the net, sophomore middle blocker
Kaitlyn Grice (Biology) paces UNO with 0.86 blocks per set.
Jackson State (6-21 5-9 SWAC) welcomes UNO as its final opponent in a five-match homestand, where the team has gone 1-3 with the last match ending in a 3-0 loss to Southern. The tigers average 9.8 kills on a .092 hitting percentage with 12.6 digs, 9.1 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.0 service aces.
Desiree Mack leads JSU's attack with 2.10 kills per set, getting her passes from Arianna Salas who averages 7.00 assists. Defensively, Tyler Moorer paces the Tigers with 3.37 digs while Dayjah Stewart sparks the team with 0.98 blocks per set.
UNO concludes the 2016 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 12, when the Privateers host Southeastern Louisiana on senior night. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
