BOX SCORE
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The University of New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (3-4, 0-1 Southland) snagged a point from
Luis Albuquerque, but fell 6-1 to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Â
Albuquerque coasted to victory at #5 singles. After leading his match on Saturday against Rice, Albuquerque made short work of Carlos Pedrosa, winning 6-0, 6-1. However, UNO was shorthanded with just five players available.
Â
UNO was able to field just two doubles teams, which put the pressure on them to sweep both. The Islanders took both decisions at #1 and #2 doubles by 6-2 scores to gain the first point of the match heading into singles.
Â
The Islanders picked off wins with Guillaume Rauseo, Kevin Bettendroffer, and Ricardo Mayagoitia to clinch the match. Bettendroffer won 6-3, 6-3 at #1 singles while Mayagoitia turned in a 6-3, 6-2 win at #2 singles. Rauseo was the first of the trio to finish as he won 6-1, 6-1 at #4 singles. Javier Pujol also picked up a straight set win at #3 singles.
Â
The Privateers will play two matches this week, hosting UT-Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday, March 15 and conference foe, Incarnate Word on Wednesday, March 16.
