Shokeir Returns to Help Men's Tennis Top Incarnate Word

BOX SCORE

NEW ORLEANS
– Karim Shokeir returned from injury and rallied back in singles to help the University of New Orleans men's tennis team (5-4, 1-1 Southland) to a 4-3 victory over the Incarnate Word Cardinals (7-8, 0-2) on Wednesday at the University Tennis Center.

After missing the last two matches, Shokeir slid into the sixth spot in the rotation and faced off against Ryan Hoverson. The first set went Hoverson's way at 6-4. Shokeir then won a tiebreak in the second set to force a deciding third which he took 6-3.

The Privateers also earned wins from Giacomo Adoncecchi and Gonzalo Garcia in singles after opening with the doubles point in their favor. Adoncecchi split the first two sets and earned the point after his opponent retired from the match. Garcia posted a straight set victory, winning a tiebreak in the first set and taking the second at 6-4.

In doubles, UNO won on the outer courts. Luis Albuquerque and Jeffrey Hsu coasted to a 6-3 triumph at #1 doubles. Garcia and Nicolas Kramer added a 7-5 win at #3 doubles to seal the first point of the day for the Privateers.

UNO will be in action next on Friday when they face Abilene Christian at 10 a.m. and Lipscomb at 4 p.m. at the University Tennis Center.
