Men's Tennis to Host Omaha on Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS – After completing an unblemished week, the University of New Orleans men's tennis team (5-4, 1-1 Southland) turns the page to a Wednesday tilt against the Omaha Mavericks (6-10, 0-1 Summit) on Wednesday at the University Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

UNO's scheduled weekend was washed out. Rains came through the area at the beginning of the weekend forcing the cancellation of the Privateers' match against Lipscomb and the postponement of their conference bout with Abilene Christian with a make-up date still yet to be announced.

The Privateers pulled off a pair of 4-3 victories last week. UNO topped UT-Rio Grande Valley with a shorthanded roster of only five players. In their win against Incarnate Word, Karim Shokeir returned and rallied in singles to help the Privateers to their first conference victory in their second match. The Privateers have earned all five of their wins at home.

Gonzalo Garcia finished a 4-0 week of his own. Garcia won both singles matches at the No. 3 position. In doubles, Garcia teamed up with Nicolas Kramer for a pair of wins including a 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point against UTRGV. On the season, Garcia is 6-2 in singles and 5-3 in doubles with Kramer.

The Mavericks enter off a 5-4 victory over Mobile in their last outing on Monday. Prior to that, Omaha lost a 6-1 decision to Southland foe, Lamar. The Mavericks have played 14 matches away from home and are 5-9 in those matches.

Alex Woodward leads the team in singles victories with six and has played in each of the top three spots in the rotation. Matt Dunn and Marko Minic have four singles wins each. In doubles, Colin Buckley and Ignace Warson have been placed at the No. 1 spot and are 4-9 on the season.
