BOX SCORE
NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's tennis team (7-7) put up a battle against a tough opponent, but eventually fell 5-2 to the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns (17-10) on Sunday at the University Tennis Center.
Â
The Cajuns were able to secure the first point of the day, starting with a clean sweep at No. 2. Coleman Wahlborg and Vlad Kramarov ran to a 6-0 victory to set the early tone and the Cajuns put the finishing touches on the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Â
"We played a very good Lafayette team," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "We executed pretty well, but we didn't get the doubles point and that hurt us. We're fighting hard and I think the guys competed well and we have a few matches left before we prepare for conference."
Â
The Privateers looked to rally back in singles as a lot of matches had very little separation. Three singles matches went to a third set and the Privateers were able to win two of those matches.
Giacomo Adoncecchi rallied back from a 6-4 first set loss to defeat Will Huyton at No. 2 singles.
Â
Nicolas Kramer held off a rally by Eric Perez at No. 5 singles. After Kramer won the first set of his match 6-2, Perez countered with a 7-5 victory in the second. Kramer was able to finish the task though with a 10-8 win in the third set.
Â
It wasn't enough however as the Cajuns picked up straight set wins at No. 1, 3, and 6. The match at No. 4 between
Luis Albuquerque and Kramarov went deep into the tiebreaker, but Kramarov prevailed 13-11 in the third set.
Â
UNO has three matches left as the schedule will change around due to a make-up conference match against Abilene Christian. All changes will be announced on Monday.
