BOX SCORE
HOUSTON, Texas – The University of New Orleans men's tennis team (7-8, 2-3 Southland) entered the day trailing 1-0 and fell 6-1 to the Abilene Christian Wildcats (19-8 3-2) on Saturday afternoon to close out their conference slate.
Â
UNO entered the day trailing after losing the doubles point when the team originally met in New Orleans in mid-March. Abilene Christian picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the opening point of the match.
Â
Jeffrey Hsu earned a victory at No. 1 singles to account for the only Privateers point. Hsu won the first set 6-4, but lost the second set 6-3 to Josh Sheehy. That forced a third set tiebreak, which Hsu prevailed in by a 10-7 score.
Â
There was one other match that went to three sets, and it took place at No. 5 singles. Abilene Christian's Henry Adams lost the first set to
Nicolas Kramer 6-4. Adams then ripped off a 6-2 win in the second set and a 6-3 victory in the third to clinch the match.
Â
The Wildcats won three matches in straight sets, and also picked up a singles win at No.2 singles by virtue of a walkover. UNO will be the three seed in the conference tournament, which was already sealed before the day started.
Â
UNO will close the regular season next Tuesday with Senior Day against Xavier. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
