Men's Tennis Rallies From Early Deficit, Tops Nicholls

BOX SCORE

THIBODAUX, La.
– The University of New Orleans men's tennis team (7-6, 2-2 Southland) rallied back from dropping the doubles point to defeat the Nicholls Colonels (3-13, 1-4) on Friday at the Renaissance Family Fitness Center.

Nicholls started off by winning the first point of the day, winning both outer courts in doubles. Sam Meessen and Oleksander Podgursky took a hard fought 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles and Bernard Wezeman and Max Sinn won 6-2 at No. 3 to give the Colonels the first point.

That was all for the Colonels though as UNO controlled the action in singles play. That included a pair of three-set victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. The first two matches that went in the books went the Privateers' way. Nicolas Kramer and Karim Shokeir both pulled straight set victories to put the Privateers ahead 2-1.

Giacomo Adoncecchi then won 6-3, 6-3 over Evan Karatzas to put UNO on the brink of victory. The clinching point was earned when Jeffrey Hsu bounced back from losing a tiebreak in the first set to defeat Podgursky 7-6, 6-2 over the next two sets. Gonzalo Garcia earned a victory in the last match to finish after also rallying from losing the first set.

The men will next face Louisiana-Lafayette at home on Sunday at 11 a.m.
