New Orleans- The University of New Orleans volleyball team returns after one week off with a short trip to Hammond, Louisiana to face the Lady Lions of Southeastern Louisiana, Saturday, October 14 at the University Center. Start time is 1 p. m.
The Privateers (7-11,1-5 Southland) hope to snap a five-match losing streak. Their last outing was a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Houston Baptist at the Human Performance Center.
"We needed that week off and I think that will make us refreshed," said head coach
Millicent Van Norden. "We really just need to get that drive back to where we had it earlier in the season when we were just playing and not playing people's jerseys. When we get that back we will be fine."
Junior middle blocker
Kaitlyn Grice is still among the leaders in the conference in two categories. The Valrico, Florida native is second in the league in Blocks with a total of 82 for 1.21 per set. She is third in hitting percentage at .331.
Blessing Dunn, a junior leads the club in kills (147 total-2.16 per set) and digs (200 total-2.94 per set). Nela Grau leads UNO in assists with 449 averaging 6.51 per set.
Southeastern Louisiana (2-18,0-6 Southland) is in the midst of a 9 match losing streak after falling to Lamar Tuesday in four sets, 13-25,25-22,25-21,25-15. Van Norden says New Orleans won't take Southeastern lightly because of their record.
"They've had quite a few matches where they've had to play extra points, so they have been in a lot of those matches. And them being at home instead of on the road I believe will make a big difference."
After Saturday's match the Privateers will hit the road again to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar, Tuesday, October 17 at 7 p, m.
