Volleyball Looks Toward Season Sweep Of Lamar

Privateers downed the Cardinals in Beaumont earlier this month

New Orleans- The University of New Orleans volleyball team will host the Lamar University Cardinals, Saturday, October 28, at the Human Performance Center.   First serve is slated for Noon.

The Privateers defeated Lamar once this season and a win Saturday would give UNO its first season-sweep over a conference opponent since the 2015 season when they took two from Nicholls.

New Orleans (9-14,3-8 Southland) is coming off a tough loss at home to Stephen F. Austin in four sets, 25-12, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23. The victory clinched a playoff spot for the Lady Jacks.   Despite the defeat, the Privateers got strong performances from a number of student-athletes.

Junior team captain Blessing Dunn recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 kills and 14 digs.  Nela Grau, a junior, turned in her fourth double-double with 15 assists and10 digs.  Grau also chipped in 2 aces. Sophomore Sarah Thomas had a solid all-around day with 30 assists, 7 digs and 2 service aces.  Kyra Hunter, a freshman, supplied 13 kills and sophomore Andrea Nava had 15 digs.

Junior Kaitlyn Grice remains the Southland Conference leader in hitting percentage at .349.   She is second in the SLC in blocks at 1.17 Avg./Set.  Lane Hindenburg is also in the top ten in the Southland in hitting percentage ranked ninth at .296.

UNO defeated Lamar (4-17.2-9 Southland) in Beaumont on October 17, 3-2 (23-25, 26-24, 28-30, 25-29, 15-11).  They defeated Southeastern Louisiana Thursday night in Hammond, Louisiana snapping a five-match losing streak, 3-2 (25-16, 27-29, 15-25, 29-27, 17-15.)   

The next time the Privateers hit the court will be Thursday, November 2, when they travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana to face Mc Neese.  First serve at 7 p. m.
