Women’s Basketball to Face South Alabama Friday

Privateers lead all-time series 29-19

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of New Orleans (1-3) will resume regular business hours Friday when the Privateers take on the University of South Alabama (2-1) at Mitchell Center at 7:05 p.m.

The Privateers fell to No. 24 University of Miami 76-46 Tuesday but shot 41 percent from three-point range. Led by the nation's leading returning scorer from last season, Randi Brown posted 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting against the U. She leads the club and conference with 23.3 points per game through the opening four games of the 2017-18 season.
 
A Morgan City, Louisiana native, Brown was named Southland Conference Player of the Week and College Sports Madness Southland Conference Player of the Week, Monday, November 20, for her work last week against CSUN and Houston.
 
Junior Shania Woods is currently third in the SLC in rebounding with 8.5 a game. The Houston, Texas native is also the club's second-leading scorer at 10.0 points per contest. Against Houston, she posted 20 points and 19 rebounds, the first double-double of the season for New Orleans.
 
The Jaguars grabbed a win on the road last weekend over the University of North Carolina, 85-84. USA featured three players in double figures against the Tar Heels, Chyna Ellis (23), Savannah Jones (22) and Shaforia Jones (17).
 
New Orleans leads the all-time series with South Alabama 29-19. The Privateers and Jaguars met last season (November 19) at Lakefront Arena with the visiting Jaguars escaping NOLA with the 65-62 win. New Orleans and South Alabama met as members of the Sun Belt Conference 36 times with UNO holding the advantage 24-12.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will return to Lakefront Arena on Thursday, November 30 at 7 p. m. to face the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State.
