Battle of New Orleans – Women’s Hoops Visits Tulane Tuesday

The Privateers and Green Wave will clash for the first time in four years

NEW ORLEANS - For the first time in four years, the University of New Orleans (1-6) will face crosstown-rival Tulane University (4-4) on the hardwood when the Privateers make the trip from the Lakefront to Uptown December 5 to Avron Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

The game will be televised on CST and discounted tickets for New Orleans and Tulane Faculty and Staff are available at the Tulane Ticket Office and TulaneGreenWave.com.

Manny Pepis has the call on the Privateer Sports Network.

UNO will try to halt a five-game losing streak after Saturday's loss to No. 19/16 University of Missouri. In the game, the Privateers outrebounded the Tigers 45-36.

Senior guard Randi Brown continues to lead the Southland Conference in scoring at 20.0 points. She is also fifth in steals (2.9) and fifth in minutes played (34.0). The Houma, Louisiana native has the highest single game point total in the Southland Conference this season with 38 points in the victory versus CSUN in the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament. Already the all-time leader in three-pointers made in program history, Brown is less than 200 points away from moving into second place in total points.

Shania Woods, a junior form Houston, averages 8.4 points per game and 7.4 rebounds, the latter good enough to rank fifth in the Southland. Woods had a season-high 20 points and 19 rebounds against Houston on November 18.

In the loss at Mizzou, point guard Mariah Wright scored a season-high 12 points on four 3-pointers while sophomore Whitley Larry led New Orleans with seven rebounds.

As a team, the Privateers rank fifth in the conference in free throw percentage (.708) and steals (10.1).

Tulane lost its last game – a road contest at North Carolina State 79-55. Kolby Morgan, a senior from New Orleans, had 20 points against the Wolfpack and surpassed 1,800 points for her career. She leads the Wave in scoring at 22.4 a game.

Junior guard Meredith Schulte is the next highest scorer (7.9) and Harlyn Wyatt leads Tulane in rebounding with 6.1 boards a contest.

UNO leads the all-time series with the Green Wave, 30-20. The Privateers won 23 in-a-row during one stretch between 1982 and 1993. The last time the two teams met was November 18, 2013, an 81-46 Tulane victory at Fogelman Arena.

After facing Tulane, New Orleans won't be back in action until Thursday, December 14, when local Xavier University visits Lakefront Arena at 11 a.m.
