NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's tennis hosted Nicholls in a Southland Conference match on Friday morning, winning their conference opener 5-2.
New Orleans (3-1) trailed after doubles play, losing two of three matches to Nicholls (1-3) before taking five of six singles matches en route to the win.
"I'm proud of the way we regrouped today," head coach
Burzis Kanga said. "We came out slow during doubles but were able to come back strong in singles and win the match. I'm proud of how everyone came out and competed."
In doubles play, the duo of junior
Federico Staksrud and sophomore
Nicolas Kramer won their match 6-4 at the second position, but losses on courts one and three gave the doubles point to the visitors.
In similar fashion to his previous outing, sophomore
Jeffrey Hsu bounced back from a loss in doubles in singles action with a commanding 6-0, 6-4 victory at the top flight. Junior
Giacomo Adoncecchi also won his opening set 6-0 and followed it with a 6-1 second set score. Staksrud and Kramer sealed the match for the Privateers, winning 7-5, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1 on courts two and three. At the fifth flight, senior
Luis Albuquerque lost his opening set 4-6, but came back to win the following two 6-2, 6-2.
The lone singles victory for Nicholls came at the second position, where junior
Federico Boscarino lost 6-2, 6-2.
The Privateers are back in action on Sunday, Mar. 5 when the team hits the road for the first time this season when they travel to Troy, Alabama for a matchup with Troy.
