NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's tennis wraps up its stretch of five matches in seven days on Saturday, Mar. 11 when the Privateers hosts Florida A&M at 11 a.m. at the University Tennis Center.
UNO holds a slim 2-1 lead in the all-time series against the Rattlers, with the Privateers winning the last matchup between the two sides 4-3 back in the 2004 campaign.
"This is a big match for us," head coach
Burzis Kanga said. "There are no easy matches on our schedule. Every opponent we play against are strong teams that can beat us if we don't come out and play our best. These past couple matches we have been fighting off injuries and sickness. We played four games in five games which has taken its toll on this team. We should be rested and ready to go tomorrow."
New Orleans (4-4) enters the Saturday contest on a two-match skid, most recently dropping a 5-2 decision to the University of Pennsylvania. Junior
Giacomo Adoncecchi leads the Privateers with a 6-1 record in singles play, currently on a five-match unbeaten streak, while his nine total victories is second on the team behind Junior
Federico Staksrud who is 6-1 in doubles play and 4-3 in singles for a team-best 10 combined victories. Half of Staksrud's six doubles victories came when paired with fellow junior
Federico Boscarino, whose riding a four-match winning streak in doubles play.
Florida A&M (3-10) plays at Nicholls today and lost their most recent match 4-2 to Mercer.
The Privateers are back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 14, when they take on Incarnate Word to begin a streak of three-straight matches in Texas.
