NEW ORLEANS – After taking a much-needed break following a stretch of six matches over 10 days, the University of New Orleans men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 25 when they travel to Abilene, Texas to take on Abilene Christian in a pivotal Southland Conference match with first serve scheduled for 10 a.m.
In the all-time series, Abilene Christian holds a slim 2-1 lead with the two sides splitting the last-two matchups.
"This is going to be a critical match for us," head coach
Burzis Kanga said. "Abilene Christian is a good team and both sides are undefeated in league play, so conference position is on the line here. This will be a good test to see where we stand in the conference this season."
New Orleans (5-6, 2-0 Southland Conference) continues its five-match road swing after going 1-1 in San Antonio, Texas last week, besting Incarnate Word 4-3 but losing to Marquette 5-0 in a neutral-site match. Junior
Giacomo Adoncecchi leads UNO with eight victories in singles play and 12 combined victories, while fellow juniors
Federico Boscarino and
Federico Staksrud both have seven victories in doubles play and 11 wins overall.
Abilene Christian (13-8, 1-0 Southland Conference) continues its season-ending six-match homestand following a 7-0 sweep of Nicholls on Sunday. Josh Sheehy leads the Wildcats with 12 victories in both singles and doubles play for 24 combined victories, while Hunter Holman matches his total in singles action.
Following the conference match, UNO takes a break from league play with a road match at Jackson State on Wednesday, Mar. 29. The Privateers return to the Lakefront on Sunday, Apr. 2 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
