NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans men's tennis team wraps up Southland Conference play this weekend with a pair of matches, starting with a road tilt on Friday, Mar. 31 at Lamar starting at 3 p.m., with a home match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, Apr. 2 at 11 a.m.
New Orleans (6-7, 2-1 Southland Conference) enters the weekend after a sweep of Jackson State on the road 7-0. Junior
Giacomo Adoncecchi leads the Privateers with 10 victories in singles action and 15 total wins on the season, while the duo of juniors
Federico Staksrud and
Federico Boscarino both have eight triumphs in doubles play, five coming when the two play together, and 13 wins overall.
"These are going to be two tough matches," head coach
Burzis Kanga said. "Over the course of three days we will be taking on the reigning league champions and the runner ups. In our practice today we looked good, I think we can challenge both of these teams and put ourselves in a great position for the conference tournament.
Lamar (12-6, 1-0 Southland Conference) comes to the Lakefront riding a three-match winning streak, besting UC Irvine, UIW and UTSA. Jeandre Hoogenboezem leads the Cardinals with 20 total victories, while Nikita Lis and Jusso Laitinen both posting 19.
Similarly to Lamar, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12-7, 1-0 Southland Conference) enter their match against UNO following a victory over UTSA. William Mottet leads the Islanders with a team-high 11 wins in singles action and nine at the top doubles flight for 20 total victories.
Following the weekend, the Privateers are back in action on Friday, Apr. 7 when they take on Louisiana Lafayette on the road.
