NEW ORLEANS – For the first time this season, the University of New Orleans men's tennis team will host a nationally-ranked opponent, as No. 36 SMU comes to the University Tennis Courts on Tuesday, April 11, at 2 p.m.
New Orleans (7-9) enters the contest after a comeback victory over Louisiana-Lafayette 4-3, prevailing in three-straight singles matches to get the win. Junior
Giacomo Adoncecchi leads the Privateers with 10 victories in singles play and 16 wins overall, while fellow juniors
Federico Boscarino and
Federico Staksrud each have eight triumphs in doubles play with Boscarino having seven in singles for 15 total wins.
"We are going to be playing against a good team tomorrow in SMU," head coach
Burzis Kanga said. "We defeated Louisiana-Lafayette in our last outing, so we will be heading into this match with some confidence. I think defeating ULL showed our team what we are capable of when we play up to our potential. We have the ability to defeat anyone on our schedule, and now they are starting to believe it."
