NEW ORLEANS –The University of New Orleans men's tennis team hits the road for its penultimate road match of the 2017 season on Friday, April 7, when UNO takes on Louisiana-Lafayette at 2:30 p.m.
New Orleans (6-9) wrapped up its Southland Conference slate last weekend, dropping a pair of matches to the finalists of the 2016 Southland Conference championships in reigning champions Lamar and the runner-ups Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Junior
Giacomo Adoncecchi leads the team with 10 victories in singles action and 17 overall, while junior
Federico Boscarino has eight in doubles play and 15 total.
"We haven't fared well against Louisiana-Lafayette recently, but I think we have a chance to change that this season," head coach
Burzis Kanga said. "As long as we go out and execute we have the ability to compete with any team on our schedule. We need to get back into a winning mentality, and a big victory over Louisiana-Lafayette would help get us back on track."
Louisiana Lafayette (13-10) ends a four-match homestand with the Privateers, going 2-1 so far with a pair of victories over Prairie View A&M on Sunday. Arthur Libaud leads ULL with 13 wins in singles play, eight coming at the top flight, and 27 total victories, while Jamie Fraser has a team-best 16 wins in doubles action and 26 total wins.
Louisiana Lafayette holds a 31-4 advantage over the Privateers in the all-time series, winning nine of the last 10 meetings between the two sides. In last season's meeting, Adoncecchi and sophomore
Nicolas Kramer both picked up victories against their Ragin Cajuns counterparts with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 triumph for Adoncecchi on court two and a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 victory for Kramer at the fifth position.
