Box Score NASHVILLE – For the third consecutive match, the University of New Orleans volleyball team had to go five sets to decide the outcome. However, the home-standing Tigers of Tennessee State fought off a late rally by the Privateers for a hard-fought, 25-14, 21-25, 14-25, 25-22, 15-11, victory in the Tennessee State Invitational in Nashville.
New Orleans (2-2) now stands at 1-2 in five set matches this season. Tennessee State now stands at 3-3 overall.
"We started slow and you end up paying for it down the stretch because you have to play so much harder," said head coach
Millicent Van Norden. "It was our first time playing before a big crowd on the road but once we settled in and managed our nerves I thought we did well. There were some close calls down the stretch but we battled until the end. Unfortunately things didn't go our way."
For the Privateers, junior
Blessing Dunn had 19 kills and 17 digs.
Kaitlyn Grice, a Southland Conference honorable mention selection as player of the week last week, had 14 kills and 6 digs. Nela Grau had 50 assists and 12 digs while
Andrea Nava led UNO with 21 digs.
It's a quick turnaround for UNO as they'll return for the second day of competition at the Tennessee State Invitational for a 9 a. m. match against Florida International, Saturday morning followed by a Noon encounter with Alcorn State.
