Box Score New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (0-1) fell 4-0 in their season opener on Friday evening against the Miami Hurricanes at the University Tennis Center.
Miami took the doubles point with triumphs at the second and third position. Bojan Jakulovski and Adria Soriano defeated the Privateers' team of
Federico Boscarino and
Lorenzo Camilli 6-0. The Hurricanes took the match at the third doubles position 6-3. The top doubles match was highly competitive with UNO's top pair of
Alexis Guedy and
Christian Fjeldstad playing to a 4-4 tie when the doubles point was decided.
"We played a good Miami team. The doubles they won at two and three convincingly," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "I thought Alexis and Christian played a very good match. In singles, Federico played a good match winning the first set. Overall, this was a good learning experience for us and I'm glad we got this match underneath us."
In singles, the Hurricanes took the matches at two, four, and five to seal the victory. Jankulowski defeated Fjeldstad 6-1, 6-0. Dane Dunlap followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win and Niclas Genovese earned the winning point for Miami.
Boscarino won the first set convincingly over Christian Langmo (ranked 78th by ITA in singles) and was narrowly trailing the second set 5-4 when the match finished. Camilli overcame a rough first set and was leading Tatsuki Shimamoto 6-5 in the second set.
The Privateers return to action on Feb. 1 when they host Alcorn State. The match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
