New Orleans- The University of New Orleans women's basketball team will open 2018 on the road against Lamar University (7-5,2-0 Southland), Wednesday, January 3 at the Montagne Center in Beaumont, Texas.  Tipoff is set for 7 p. m.
New Orleans (5-8,1-1 Southland) packed up its first conference win of the season over Houston Baptist, 70-52 on December 30.  The Privateers have won four of their last five contests.
After a 25-point performance in the win over Houston Baptist, senior 
Randi Brown continues to lead the Southland Conference in scoring averaging 22.6 a game and is ranked sixth nationally.  The Houma, Louisiana native moved into second place all-time among scorers at UNO, surpassing Carvie Upshaw (1985-89) with 1,764 career points.  Brown also grabbed seven steals against HBU.
Shania Woods, a senior from Houston Texas, recorded her fourth double-double of the season in the win over Houston Baptist with 13 points and 17 rebounds.  She averages 11.1 points and 7.8 rebounds a contest and her 3.5 offensive rebounds a game ranks second in the Southland Conference.
Kayla Mundy, a senior guard from Mc Kinney, Texas, equaled her career-high versus Houston Baptist with 18 points.
The Privateers lead the SLC in free throw shooting at .746.  They are fifth in steals with 10.2 a contest.
As a team, Lamar ranks at the top in a number of categories---scoring (80.8), steals (17.2), turnover margin (+14), offensive rebounds (18.0).
Guard Chastadie Barrs is tops in the conference in assists (6.4) and steals (6.4).  Moe Kinard leads the Cardinals in scoring with 14.7 a game while Kiandra Bowers is number one in the conference in field goal percentage (.542) and offensive rebounds (4.2).
The Cardinals have won 19 consecutive home games at the Montagne Center.
The next time the Privateers hit the floor will be Saturday, January 6 when they face McNeese in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  Their next home contest is Wednesday, January 10 when Stephen F. Austin comes to town.
