Volleyball Closes Out Road Schedule with trips to Sam Houston and Nicholls

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Currently sitting in a three-way tie for the seventh spot in the Southland Conference, the University of New Orleans (11-16, 5-7 Southland) looks to keep their playoff hopes alive with a pair of SLC matches.
 
The Privateers start the week off with a showdown against Sam Houston State (19-5, 11-1 Southland) Tuesday in the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+. Then the Blue and Silver will make the short trip to Thibodaux to take on Nicholls (3-22, 1-11 Southland) on Saturday in the David R. Stopher Gym at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME THEY MET
The last match-up against the Bearkats saw the Privateers fall 3-1. Blessing Dunn led the way for UNO as she recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. And in the last meeting against Nicholls saw New Orleans come away with a 3-2 victory. Three Privateers recorded 10+ kills – Dunn (17), Kaitlyn Grice (14), and Kyra Hunter (12).
 
SCOUTING THE TEAMS
NEW ORLEANS
Grice continues to see her name on the leaderboards in the Southland and Nation. She is first in the conference in hitting percentage (.330) and blocks (134) which also puts her fifth in the nation in that regard. Andrea Nava had a career day last time out racking up 40 digs in the five-set win against Incarnate Word and leads the team with 359 digs on the season, that puts her in the seventh spot in that category.
 
As a team, UNO is ranked ninth in the nation in blocks with a total of 245 on the season.
 
SAM HOUSTON STATE
Middle blocker continues to lead the Sam Houston offense with 342 kills on the year, which is tops in the Southland Conference.
 
NICHOLLS
Brieanna Hill the leader in the kill department for Nicholls with an even 200 on the year.
