NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans women's basketball team will open the regular season schedule at home against the Ladies of Centenary College of Louisiana, Tuesday, November 6, at Lakefront Arena. Tip off is set for 5:30 p. m.
This is season number eight for head coach
Keeshawn Davenport at her alma mater and she's confident that her club will improve on last year's 15-15 overall-record, 11-7 in the Southland Conference (SLC). The 2017-18 season saw the Privateers qualify for the Southland Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season.
UNO lost a big portion of their scoring with the graduation of
Randi Brown, the Southland Conference's scoring leader the last two seasons.
New Orleans gave fans a glimpse of what they can expect on Saturday, November 3 when they defeated West Alabama in an exhibition at Lakefront Arena, 84-64. UNO got a double-double performance from senior center
Shania Woods with 24 points and 15 rebounds.
However, it was a freshman leading the way for New Orleans as
Traya Bruce, from South Lafourche High School got her first taste of collegiate competition with 26 points and 4 assists. The Cut Off, Louisiana native was 5-of-7 from behind the 3-point arch and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
New Orleans used a blazing 28-9 second quarter on the way to a 46-22 halftime advantage to break the game open against the Tigers. The Privateers also forced 31 West Alabama turnovers.
The New Orleans-Centenary game is the first part of a doubleheader at Lakefront Arena. The University of New Orleans men's team will face Spring Hill College of Mobile in the nightcap at 7:45 p, m.

The Privateers will take their show on the road, Friday, November 9, when they face the University of Pittsburgh. Their next home game is Saturday, November 17, at Lakefront Arena versus Trinity Baptist at 2:00 p. m.
