New Orleans - Patience is a virtue and that's been the case for the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team. After three straight matches being postponed due to weather, the Privateers (1-1) will be back on the court on Monday for a doubleheader against Alcorn State.
The first match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. The back end of the doubleheader is scheduled to get going at 4 p.m.
"It's been a while since we've done a doubleheader against the same team," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "We're playing catch up because of weather issues. Alcorn is probably one of the better teams in the SWAC and we're going to have to be ready. I think this is a good warm up, playing two matches in one day."
New Orleans last played in their 7-0 win against Loyola. The Privateers' loss came at home against Miami. After the win on Feb. 2, the Privateers have seen matches against South Alabama, Troy, and Jackson State all postponed.
The Privateers' doubleheader against Alcorn precedes their first road test, which comes up next weekend when they travel to Tallahassee to face Liberty and Florida State. In nine matches against Alcorn since 2000, New Orleans is undefeated.
Alcorn State (0-2) has been in the same boat as the Privateers. The Braves played a doubleheader against Ole Miss on Jan. 21. Since then, they've seen two scheduled matches against Florida A&M and Southern Miss washed out by rain.
The Braves have a young roster comprised of six players. Four of the six players are either freshmen or sophomores. Kert Kilumets is the lone senior on the roster. Kilumets, a transfer from North Carolina Central, was the SWAC Player of the Year in 2017.
