Men's Tennis Comes Back in Singles to Top Alcorn State

Box Score New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (2-1) recovered from dropping the doubles point to defeat the Alcorn State Braves 5-2 on Monday at the University Tennis Center. The second scheduled match between the two sides was cancelled.

The Braves started with a 6-0 win at number two doubles. New Orleans controlled the action on the outer courts early, but Alcorn State rallied at the top spot to take a 6-3 decision and earn the first point of the match. When it transitioned to singles, the Privateers roared back.

"In doubles, we didn't execute the way we should have," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "But in key spots in singles, we came back strong starting with Giacomo and Lorenzo. I think as we move forward we need to be better."

Everyone was moved up a spot in the order with Federico Boscarino unable to play due to injury. The middle of the rotation provided the initial jolt for New Orleans. Giacomo Adoncecchi and Lorenzo Camilli were the first two to finish with straight set victories at number four and five respectively.

Nicolas Kramer got out to a strong start in his match, leading 3-0 in the first set. Kramer surged to a 6-2, 6-4 victory to give the Privateers their third point of the match. New Orleans clinched the proceedings in their favor when Johannes Klein outlasted Stojan Stojanovski in a 6-4, 6-4 decision.

The remaining two matches played out to the finish with the result decided. Alexis Guedy battled his way to a three-set victory over Kert Kilumets. Guedy was pushed to the max, but won the third and deciding set 10-8. The Braves notched a point in singles with a three-set win at the six spot from Nuno Rocha.

The Privateers will next travel to Tallahassee for two matches. They will face Liberty on Saturday and Florida State on Sunday.
