Federico Boscarino returned in doubles and the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (2-3) battled, but fell 4-0 to the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
The Seminoles wrapped up the doubles point in short order with a 6-2 victory at the number two spot and a 6-1 triumph at the number three spot. Boscarino was paired with
Nicolas Kramer at number one doubles after missing the last week due to injury.
"We played better today and competed well," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "We were playing the best team we've played this year. Florida State is a very good club and I think we did about as well as we could. We have to look forward to next week and get ready for Jackson State and Southern Miss."
There were several close matches in singles. Florida State was able to control matters in the middle of the rotation, winning at number three, four, and five singles to clinch the match in the favor of the 16
th-ranked team in the nation.
Alexis Guedy fully stretched his opponent, Lucas Poullain in the second set. After losing the first set, 6-1, Guedy was narrowly trailing at 6-5.
Johannes Klein rebounded from losing the first set to lead the second 4-2 at the time of the match being called.
At number six sinlges,
Christian Fjeldstad lost the first set 6-3 to Terrence Whitehurst. Fjeldstad was then locked in a back and forth battle that wound up a 4-4 tie when the Seminoles clinched the match to move to 13-1.
The Privateers will return home on Thursday to face Jackson State. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
