Box Score New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team gutted out three-set victories in three singles matches as part of a 6-1 triumph over the Jackson State Tigers on Thursday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers started strong in doubles, led by
Nicolas Kramer and
Giacomo Adoncecchi. The duo got off to a fast start and coasted to a 6-2 victory to give the Privateers the first match. The Privateers earned the clinching point in doubles at the one spot with
Alexis Guedy and
Johannes Klein.
A back and forth match ensued at the beginning. With the score 4-3 and New Orleans narrowly ahead, a costly double fault gave the Privateers a service break. Klein and Guedy served for the match and finished the point quickly to win 6-3.
"This is a tough men's team," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "We started off well in doubles and got the momentum going. That first point was critical. It gives you that jump going into singles. I'm pleased with the performance and I'm proud of the way they competed."
Guedy continued his momentum into singles, by winning 6-2, 6-2 to give the Privateers their first singles point. That followed on the heels of Jackson State winning their lone point at number six singles with a straight set victory.
Adoncecchi also had a solid performance in singles to put the Privateers up 3-1. The senior won 6-3, 6-2 at number five to put the Privateers on the brink of victory. The rest of the matches by that point were already into the third set.
Federico Boscarino sealed the clinching point in a grueling match against his former team. After losing the first set at 6-4, Boscarino, who was at Jackson State prior to transferring to New Orleans, rallied while holding serve in critical games. Boscarino won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the match. After the result was decided, Kramer and Klein won their matches in three sets.
The Privateers are back at home on Tuesday, Mar. 6 when they take on Belmont at home. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
